In this tutorial, I will show you how to easily remove unwanted background noise from your podcast episodes.
Here is a video tutorial on how to remove background noise in Audacity
1.) The first thing you want to do is to find a spot in the recording that is JUST the unwanted audio. Normally it’s a spot in the audio file where nobody is speaking.
2.) Select the audio segment with your cursor.
3.) Now go up to effect and scroll down until you see noise reduction/removal (depending on what version of the software you are using).
4.) After that, you will see 2 different steps come up in the noise removal process. The first one is to capture the noise profile. Since you have the unwanted audio already selected just click the “Get Noise Profile” button in the first step.
5.) In the next step, you will want to set the amount of noise reduction to 8-12 depending on the nature of the unwanted sound. The sensitivity to 6, and the frequency to 0.
6.) Once you have done this you will go back to the audio file and select all of the audio in which you want to remove the unwanted background noise, and go back up to edit and repeat noise reduction. This will apply the reduction that we setup in the previous step.
